“privilege” test…

I have been organizing some test shots of people using the hybrid camera. After some initial difficulty in deciding who to photograph, the idea came to me of documenting teachers. My initial plan then is to document as many teachers as possible in the tokyo region. This is something that i hope the company may support as the collection of images would be a faithful record of a typical migrant worker in Japan. This image comprises of 160 pieces all told and was a lot trickier to do than the landscapes, because of the flash. I am not comfortable with using flash for documentary pictures as this is something that challenger did not use at all, but in order to take pictures inside, it could be fairly necessary. Unless of course, i use only a slow shutter. If the subject moves, the subject moves. This is a good point and is something i should seriously consider. The focus on the subject would be to not move, whereas with the flash, i welcomed the movement. The subjects in the original challenger portraits would not have been free to move about. The exposures were probably around the half a second mark. The series of images, if the right decisions are made, will be called “Privilege” which is a reference to the opportunity teachers have to work in Japan as guest workers, or migrants.
